Additional information

Trelstar LA (Triptorelin long-acting) is typically given once every 3 months. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Triptorelin is given as an intramuscular (into the muscle) injection by your doctor.

WARNING: Triptorelin may cause low levels of red blood cells (anemia). It may cause mood swings and symptoms of depression. Use with caution in patients with diabetes as it may cause an increase in blood sugar levels. Triptorelin can cause changes to the normal rhythm of the heart. An irregular heartbeat called "QT prolongation" may occur. There may be an increased risk of heart-related events (e.g., heart attacks, stroke, heart-related death) in men using Trelstar LA (Triptorelin long-acting). It may cause the bones to lose thickness, use with caution in patients with osteoporosis (thin, weakened bones).

In addition to its desired action, Trelstar LA (Triptorelin long-acting) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause breast enlargement (in men), difficulty getting or maintaining an erection, reduced genital size, or reduced sex drive.
It may cause constipation, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, or weight gain.
It may cause coughing, dizziness, fatigue or weakness, headaches, or trouble sleeping.
It may cause hot flushes (sudden sweating and feeling of warmth), pain, redness, swelling, or itching at the place of injection.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to triptorelin or any component of the formulation, other gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists (same class of medication).

Taking Trelstar LA (Triptorelin long-acting) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
